  • Buyers’ Paradise! 7 Marketplaces Worth Spending Your Money At

Calling all adventurous shoppers! If authentic and novel trinkets catches your eye, then add these 7 marketplaces to your checklist of places to shop at in Singapore. Tip: Most of these places are cash-only, so be sure to hit the ATM before you head on over to shop to your heart’s content.

    MAAD Design Market

Once a month, Singapore’s largest and longest-running creative marketplace takes over the ground floor of the Red Dot Design Museum. This market requires artists and designers to have a degree of input and ownership in the wares they sell, so it’s where you should go to pick up unique pieces of jewellery, crafts and more. Tired of shopping? Rock it out to MAAD Sounds!, which features up-and-coming local musicians performing their original works.

Runs 5pm to midnight on the first Friday of each month at the Red Dot Design Museum, 28 Maxwell Road. Check out the official page at: http://www.museum.red-dot.sg/maad.

    Zouk Flea & Easy

The name “Zouk” may be synonymous with nightlife but four times each year, Singapore’s most popular club plays host to a sprawling daytime flea market. Whether it’s fashion items, pre-loved goods or baked treats you’re looking for, you’ll be sure to find them here. Held in conjunction with Flea & Easy is the ZOUKIDISCO – a disco party for kids – so the little ones wouldn’t feel left out.

Held quarterly at Zouk Singapore, 17 Jiak Kim Street. Stay tuned to the official website athttp://www.zoukclub.com/ for updates.

    Public Garden Market

This market professes to be an “alternative to big box enterprise”, and we wholeheartedly agree. Bringing you the best in art and design, fashion, beauty and even gourmet food products via a fresh retail concept, their markets are simply a joy to spend weekend afternoons wandering through with your friends.

Happens regularly at various locations. To stay in touch with their whereabouts, keep your browser onhttp://www.public-garden.com/.

    The Local People

Forget mass production. The goods you’ll find at the Local People’s markets are made with love by Singaporeans big on craft. Expect to find a wide variety of clothing, accessories, stationery, prints and many more. We were bowled over by the raw passion of the young craftsmen (and women!) in creating products that they truly care about. Who said Singapore’s craft scene is dead?

    Three Blind Mice

What started in 2013 by a trio of best friends has grown into Singapore’s de facto trend market for fashionistas to score their favourite threads. You’ll definitely be blinded by the spread of local online labels on display at Three Blind Mice’s weekend markets. We love their wallet-friendly prices and how it’s also a platform for budding young music talents to stage their work.

    Singapore Really Really Free Market

If you no longer need something, pass it on. Such is the philosophy of the Really Really Free Market, which has been running in Singapore for the past six years. Trawl through items that others have given up and you might stumble upon something useful for yourself. In a society obsessed with all that is shiny and new, it’s refreshing to know of a movement which advocates sharing resources to reduce waste and consumption.

Held bi-monthly at various locations. Follow them on Facebook to find out when the next market will take place:https://www.facebook.com/srrfm.

    Pasar Malams

For a market with a truly local flavor, head to the pasar malams (‘night markets’ in Malay) that nestle within Singapore’s neighbourhoods. Families turn up come in droves for a spot of after-dinner shopping, as hawkers peddle them everything from street food to clothing, to random bric-a-bracs. The tricky part, however, lies in finding one close to where you’re staying, as they pop up all over the island according to no particular schedule. Good luck!
