Tête-à-Tête - Language Tables

Konnichiwa! Hola! Bonjour! Feeling lost in translation yet? Polyglots in Singapore converge at this event to mingle and sharpen their foreign language chops in Mandarin, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, French and German – to name a few. If you speak more than one of the above, feel free to move around the different language tables or better yet, host a table in your native tongue! Just remember their golden rule: No English allowed!

destination: INK
Have a piece of writing to share? Whether it’s poetry, prose or lyrics, get up on stage and read them aloud at destination: INK. Readers have five minutes each to showcase their original work, while musicians have seven. Feeling inspired after watching the performers? Then be spontaneous and release your inner poet before the audience during the open-open mic at the end of the event!
Held once a month on Monday evenings at Blu Jaz Café, 11 Bali Lane. $4 cover charge. For more information, check out their Facebook.
Speakeasy
Not to be confused with the unlicensed bars of New York’s prohibition era where conversations were maintained in hushed whispers, Speakeasy wants you to make a rumble with words at their event. Each session features well-known names in the local and/or international poetry scene, some of whom have included Alvin Pang, Cyril Wong and Hungarian-born T.S. Eliot Prize winner George Szirtes.
Held regularly at Artistry, 17 Jalan Pinang. Free entry. Check Artistry’s Facebook page for updates.
Books & Beer

If you’re looking to swap your pre-loved books for more good reads, this is one event you should keep an eye on. Bring up to 10 titles to Books & Beer and take home the same number from what others have contributed. But that’s not all. Grab an ice cold beer and stick around to chatter away with fellow bookworms. It’s literary intoxication at its finest!

CreativeMornings Singapore
The Singapore chapter of this global breakfast lecture series kicks off before office hours on Friday mornings, but that hasn’t deterred creative types from filling up the seats at its event each month. Every session of CreativeMornings begins with a 20-minute presentation by a prominent figure from the local creative scene on a specified topic, followed by Q&A and networking. Come and be inspired! Oh, the free coffee doesn’t hurt either.
Held once a month on Friday mornings at various locations. Free entry but do register for tickets and find out more about their past events here.
Story Slam Singapore
Sit down and be regaled with an evening of tales at this storytelling session that takes place in an open mic format.
